A resident of the neutral colony Heliopolis and a friend of Kira Yamato. He went to engineering college with Kira, but got caught up in the fighting in Heliopolis. He evacuated to the Archangel, and subsequently enlisted in the military and became the ship's assistant helmsman. He has a friendly and caring demeanor. He and his girlfriend, Miriallia Haw, both support Kira from the sidelines, as Kira garners attention from friends and foes alike as a Coordinator. Tolle saw the way Kira suffered as the war dragged on, and decided that it was not fair to put all the burden of fighting on Kira alone. He trained in a simulator and applied to pilot a Skygrasper.
