An orphan who traveled aboard the Federation Forces warship White Base during the One Year War.
He decided to join the AEUG after meeting Amuro Ray, a hero of the One Year War, with his mother Fraw Kobayashi.
Because he is so young and immature, he is not very good at controlling his emotions, and often offends his superiors with his rude behavior.
He has grown up watching Amuro Ray, so he idolizes MS pilots and desperately wants to be a hero himself.
He is also competitive and often acts alone and messes up, but he gradually starts to grow out of this as he learns the grim reality of war.
