An officer cadet who was made captain of the Federation Forces warship White Base after the Zeon attack on SIDE 7 wiped out most of its crew. He is a responsible, duty-driven man who leads the White Base's inexperienced crew with a strict, firm hand. He is completely unafraid of giving unpopular orders. He is especially tough on the Gundam pilot Amuro Ray, who he can tell has great potential. Eventually he matures into a good leader and gradually builds a trusting relationship with the rest of the crew, as they fight and survive vicious battles.
